Natural Gas

Faribault Energy Park (FEP) is an example of Avant’s drive and ability to employ innovation and to build both environmentally and budget-friendly conventional generation. The 300 MW combined-cycle facility has dual-fuel capability, running primarily on natural gas. In addition to being a low-emissions facility, FEP employs an advanced water management process includes a recovery and filtration system that captures, stores and utilizes rainwater. Some project highlights include:

  • Not just a plant, but a park – When designing FEP, Avant incorporated a master landscaping plan that included 35 acre wetlands park, walking paths and fishing ponds, open to the public
  • A focus on energy education – FEP is designed to be a working classroom, hosting approximately 1,600 students per year
  • Received multiple accolades – In March 2008, FEP was featured on the cover of Power Magazine and in 2012 and 2013 FEP won a Best Practices Award from Combined Cycle Journal
